Ghana captain denies ritual sacrifice murder
Ghana’s national football captain and former English Premier League player Asamoah Gyan has been forced to deny he murdered a local rapper in a ritual sacrifice.
The 28-year-old, who currently plays in the UAE, is holding a media conference at 11pm (AEST) where he will respond to speculation that he killed Theophilus Tagoe, better known as Castro.
Tagoe and his girlfriend reportedly drowned as a result of a jet-ski accident while on holiday in the African nation with Gyan and his brother following this year’s World Cup.
The bodies have never been found despite an extensive police search.
A journalist has also accused Gyan’s brother Baffour of punching and kicking him after the reporter asked Gyan about the allegations that he sacrificed Castro. The Ghanian captain will be a witness at the court case about the incident.
Gyan is most well remembered for missing the penalty awarded for Luis Suarez’s deliberate handball during Ghana's loss to Uruguay in the 2010 World Cup quarter-final.
