German players 'fit' for World Cup camp

Germany's ailing captain Philipp Lahm and goalkeeper Manuel Neuer should be fit to play at next month's World Cup tournament in Brazil, their club Bayern Munich says.

"The upcoming World Cup in Brazil is neither in danger for Lahm nor for Neuer," Munich said in a statement on Monday.

Bayern said the pair will be able to travel with the national team to the training camp in northern Italy on Wednesday.

Medical examinations earlier on Monday revealed that Lahm sustained a bruised ankle but no ligament damage.

However, he will not be able to train for five to seven days.

Neuer suffered a small tear in a shoulder joint ligament. He has been given a protective sling and must reduce training.

Both were injured during Saturday's cup final in which Munich beat Borussia Dortmund 2-0. Lahm limped off after 30 minutes while Neuer completed the match.

A third Munich player, Bastian Schweinsteiger, is also a concern with a knee problem that kept him out of the cup final.

In addition, Lazio striker Miroslav Klose is still aiming to regain full fitness and Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira has played only two games in a return from a cruciate knee ligament rupture.

All are key players in the national team which is rated a title contender in Brazil where Portugal, Ghana and the United States are the group stage opponents.

Germany coach Joachim Loew gathers his players for a 10-day camp in northern Italy on Wednesday.

Two friendlies against Cameroon on June 1 and Armenia on June 6 are also planned before the team departs for Brazil on June 7.
