Germany fan Huberth Wirth arrived at Moscow's Luzhniki Stadium on Sunday two hours before his team's World Cup opener against Mexico - on a tractor after a 30-day ride over some 2400km.

Wirth's unusual long distance vehicle was decorated with German and Russian flags, and had a "Hello Moscow" sign.

He undertook the journey from his southern German home town of Neuhausen at an average speed of 20km/h.

"I feel super," he said after getting off the tractor at a stadium parking lot with his dog, who had accompanied him.

He said the journey had been "wonderful" and that "meeting all the people was the best."

Asked why he had chosen a tractor, he said: "It's simply my hobby."
