Four crushed to death at soccer stadium

At least four people were killed and about 20 others injured when fans pushed their way into Tegucigalpa's National Stadium before the Honduran soccer league's Clausura tournament final, officials have said.

"Four people were accidentally killed in the incident by a mob of fans entering Gate 11 on the east side violently", the Security Secretariat said in a statement.

Two fans were pronounced dead at the stadium and two others died while being treated at a hospital in the capital, the secretariat said.

The incident occurred right before the start of Sunday's match in the packed stadium.

Fans observed a minute of silence for the victims before the start of the match.

Motagua cruised to a 3-0 win over Honduras Progreso in the final.
