Footballer reverts to comical stretcher dive

Powered by

As long as sport has been played, competitors have been trying to waste time, provided their team is in the lead of course.

Well a Uruguayan footballer has taken those time-wasting attempts to a comical new level, flopping off a stretcher in injury time during a Copa Sudamericana match.

With his Defensor Sporting team leading 4-3 and the seconds ticking down, Matias Alonso went down in agony with ‘cramp’ in his left leg.

Oblivious to the whistles and jeers from the supporters of Bolivian rivals Real Potosi, Alonso and his team’s medical staff went through the choreographed routine of treatment before he was placed on a stretcher.

It’s then that things get laughable, provided you’re not a Real Potosi player that is, with the wannabe actor hurling himself to the ground as the stretcher is lifted to the medi-cab before trying to play the fall off as an accident.

Although Sporting prevailed, it came at a price in the form of Alonso’s dwindling fan base.
