Footballer proposes to girlfriend after scoring

Fans call football the beautiful game.

But it may just have to be tweaked to the romantic game after a Colombian player produced a mid-match marriage proposal to his girlfriend following his first goal for his new club.

In gesture to top all goal celebrations, Alianza Petrolera striker Martin Arzuaga sent hearts aflutter in South America when he produced a sign asking his girlfriend, Katya, to marry him after scoring against Boyaca Chico.

With the scores locked at 0-0 in their Colombia Liga clash, Arzuaga unleashed a brilliantly placed left-foot shot from outside the box to hit the back of the net.

But instead of lapping it up with teammates, he charged toward the fence behind the goals, reached under his jersey and pulled out a handwritten proposal sign, which he held up to the camera.

And while we don't know for certain if Katya accepted, the signs looked good at fulltime when Arzuaga posed for photos with with teammates, his children and the proposal message.
