Football sub hurt without kicking a ball

A Chilean football manager has made possibly the most ill-fated substitution ever after sending on a replacement who collapsed with injury moments later.

Santiago Wanderers midfielder Marco Medel entered the fray in the 55th minute during his side's recent Primera Division clash with Universidad de Concepcion.

But just 13 seconds after walking onto the pitch and without kicking a ball, the 25-year-old could be seen wincing in pain before dropping onto his back half a minute later.

He then had to be stretchered off proving a calamitous substitution for manager Emiliano Astorga.

While it was unclear how Medel was injured, it would appear he may have been carrying a niggle into the match which he somehow aggravated once he walked onto the pitch.

Fortunately, Medel's injury did not cost Astorga, who still had another substitution up his sleeve with the match ending in a 0-0 draw.
