Fenerbahce penalised by UEFA

Fenerbahce have been fined and had their player recruitment limited by UEFA for breaching financial fair play rules.

The Turkish side have been handed a fine of up to 7.5 million euros ($A11.62 million) and will only be allowed to register 22 players in European competitions next season.

Having finished second in the Turkish Super Lig, Fenerbahce will enter the Champions League qualifying stages in 2016-17.

In addition, the Istanbul-based outfit accepts a "calculated limitation on the number of new registrations it may include for the purposes of participation in UEFA competitions".

Fellow Turkish club Trabzonspor and Kazakh side FC Astana were both fined up to 2 million euros while Croatia's Dinamo Zagreb have to pay 200,000 euros for similar rule breaches.
