UEFA gets Euro16 goal technology complaint

German company GoalControl has lodged a complaint against Europe's football body UEFA at the German cartel office over the choice of the company providing goal line technology at Euro 2016.

Cartel office spokesman Kay Weidner on Tuesday confirmed to dpa that they have received the complaint but said that the case may have to be dealt with by the European Union's competition commission.

GoalControl believes that UEFA conducted no proper tender before awarding the goal line technology rights for Euro 2016 to rival company Hawk Eye/Sony. GoalControl did not want to further comment on the issue Tuesday.

GoalControl provided the technology at the 2014 World Cup and its system is also used for France's top flight, meaning that its system would have been in place in most of the 10 Euro 2016 stadiums.
