The arrival of a train carrying soccer's Euro 2016 trophy to Paris' station Gare du Nord has been met by some 300 people protesting labour reforms put forward by the French government, French broadcasters report.

The train carrying the Henri Delaunay trophy has been travelling since April 1, passing through 25 cities with Paris its last stop.

Protesters at the Gare du Nord on Wednesday were calling for solidarity with strikes and also calling for the withdrawal of controversial labour reform regulation.

Train workers for the national operator SNCF are on strike, just days before the start of Euro 2016. The operator said the participation rate in Tuesday's strike was 8.5 per cent.

As well, strikes at waste treatment plants around Paris have stalled the pick-up of trash in 10 of the capital's 20 central neighbourhoods.

Strikes called by SNCF to demand better working conditions have dovetailed with protests and strikes against a government-led effort to overhaul some labour regulations, including easing restrictions on overtime work and broadening justifications for dismissal.
