Portugal has stunned hosts France 1-0 to win its first international title at Euro 16 despite losing captain Cristiano Ronaldo to injury.

A stunning long-range extra-time goal to Eder secured the win for Portugal.

Ronaldo was robbed of the chance to lead Portugal to its maiden international title after being stretchered off with a leg injury in the Euro 16 final against France.

He was clearly hampered by the problem after he was clattered into by Dimitri Payet after eight minutes, but he managed to soldier on until the 17th minute.

It was then that the teary superstar slumped to the ground with the injury before managing to walk from the pitch with the Portuguese medical staff to receive treatment.

After adding a protective sleeve to his left leg, Ronaldo made his way back onto the pitch a minute later.

However, three minutes later he signalled to Portugal’s bench before ripping the captain’s armband off in disgust and slumping to the ground to wait for the stretcher.

Before being taken from the pitch, a visibly emotional Ronaldo handed the armband to Nani before he was replaced by Ricardo Quaresma.

More to come.
