Ethiopian referee attacked by fuming coach and players

A whistle blower in the African nation of Ethiopia has been set upon by players and team officials following a controversial decision during  one of the country’s premier league matches.

The scores were locked at 1-all between the military team Defence and Welwalo Adigrat University, when the referee made a contentious call awarding a goal to the military team.

The match official ruled the ball had crossed the line, but Welwalo Adigrat University players seemed to disagree, leading to wild scenes.

Emotions spilled over, with the ref chasing him off the ground.

The video then shows the coach of the team hunting down the referee and punching him in the face while the man with the whistle tries to protect himself with a corner flag.

The Ethiopian Football Federation has since fired the coach involved in the fracas and all games in the premier league have been suspended.
