EPL 2017: Leicester City player Riyad Mahrez denied a goal by eagle-eyed referee following slip

A seldom-needed football rule denied Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez what initially appeared a fair goal from the penalty spot during his side’s 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the English Premier League.

Eagle-eyed referee Robert Madley spotted that Mahrez had kicked the ball into his other foot, a contravention of the football rule stating that a penalty taker cannot make contact with the ball twice before another play touches it.

The strange this for Mahrez was that both touches came within a fraction of a second.

As the replay on the above video show, Mahrez left-foot shot deflected off his right foot before finding the back of the net.

Manchester City led 2-1 at the time and went on to win the match by the same score.
