Embattled Scolari faces uncertain future
The future of Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari is looking bleak, after a senior Brazilian football official called for his head following the side's historic 7-1 World Cup meltdown against Germany.
Delfim Peixoto, the future vice-president of the Brazilian FA (CBF), has made it clear that he believes Scolari has no future with the national team.
"He will never return with Brazil, he should retire now," said Peixoto, who will become the second in charge at the CBF next April.
"Scolari was too stubborn at all times, from the naming of his squad through to his choice of tactical system. Everything was wrong. I don't even want to talk about this in order not to say anything silly. This was a disgrace, a humiliation," Peixoto told ESPN Brazil.
"There will be no place for him with any Brazil team. Not now or in the future. He doesn't need the money, so he should pick up his things and say goodbye."
Peixoto did not say who would take over from Scolari but he did insist that "there will be many changes.
Scolari himself has left his future with the five-time world champions up in the air.
"We have a commitment with the Brazilian football confederation until the end of the World Cup, which means until Saturday's third-place final," he said.
"Straight afterwards, we will talk with the CBF and give them a complete report about our work in the last 18 months, with the things that have gone well and those that have gone badly. Then I presume there will be a decision."
Scolari denied that CBF president Jose Maria Marin had "turned his back on him" after the equal heaviest defeat in Brazil's history.
"Fifteen minutes after the game, the president was in the dressing room. He talked with everybody and said he still had confidence in the players and coaches."
According to media reports in Brazil, the two candidates to replace Scolari, should the coaching job become vacant, are former Corinthians boss Adenor Bacchi, known as Tite, and Alexandre Gallo, current coach of Brazil's under-17 and under-20 teams.
