Egypt part ways with Cuper after WC exit

Coach Hector Cuper has left his position with Egypt after they crashed to three defeats at the World Cup in Russia.

The Egyptian federation announced the departure of the 62-year-old Argentine, a day after they concluded their Group A with a 2-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia.

Egpyt, who were at the finals for the first time in 28 years endured a torrid time and failed to register a point in Russia, losing their opening matches 3-1 to hosts Russia and 1-0 to Uruguay.

Star forward Mohamed Salah netted twice but missed the first game, against Uruguay, and lacked match sharpness after being injured in the Champions League final in late May.

Cuper had held the coaching post with the seven-time African champions since 2015.
