Drunk fan calls police, asks for Sir Alex

A drunk Manchester United fan may have summed up his team's dismal year by calling an emergency line and asking to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The supporter made the call after United's shock exit from the League Cup at the hands of Sunderland at Old Trafford. The Red Devils lost the match on penalties.He told police that he wanted to report a crime and that the crime was that Manchester United were 'completely knackered' and the the 'result was all wrong'.United have been a shadow of the team that won the Premier League title in Ferguson's final year as manager last year.While audio of the fan's call may have brought a wry smile to the faces of rival supporters, Greater Manchester Police considered the matter no laughing matter and immediately issued a statement."Obviously, it can be a sad and depressing moment when you're (sic) football team loses a game, however can we all please remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only."The statement added: "If you would like to speak to Sir Alex about recent football results we here at GMP Manchester North can only suggest you try ringing Manchester United FC directly as you will probably (not definitely) have a much better chance of getting through to him there rather than ringing the police."Manchester United sit seventh on the English Premier League table.
