Dortmund go top after Wolfsburg thrashing

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has bagged a brace as rampant Borussia Dortmund stormed to the top of the Bundesliga standings with a 5-1 demolition of VfL Wolfsburg.

Aubameyang improved his season tally to four, with Raphael Guerreiro, Ousmane Dembele and Lukasz Piszczek getting the other goals on Tuesday.

Daniel Didavi had briefly revived Wolfsburg's hopes early in the second half.

Dortmund have scored 17 goals in their past three games over eight days, with Tuesday's thrashing following 6-0 wins against Legia Warsaw and Darmstadt in the Champions League and Bundesliga respectively.

They have nine points and moved ahead on goal difference of champions Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin, who meet in Munich as part of Wednesday's five-game programme.

Eintracht Frankfurt also have nine points from a 2-0 at lowly Ingolstadt, while Darmstadt salvaged a last-gasp 1-1 against Hoffenheim and Freiburg beat ailing SV Hamburg 1-0.
