Ghana defender John Boye could be added to the World Cup’s highlights reel for all the wrong reasons after scoring possibly the tournament’s worst own goal.

Boye opened the scoring with a tragic, yet spectacular shot past his own goalkeeper in their final group game against Portugal in Brasilia.

As the video shows, an attacking Portugal fizz a low, dangerous cross into the Ghanaian box that pick outs Boye at the near post.

But Boye, under pressure from a Portuguese attacker, hacks wildly at the incoming ball as it skids off his boot and thump into the opposite corner of his own net.

Despite Boye’s calamitous moment, Ghana levelled through Asamoah Gyan before superstar Cristiano Ronaldo claimed a 2-1 win for the Europeans.

However, the result did little for either team as a 1-0 win to Germany over the US knocked both Ghana and Portugal out of the competition.
