British broadcaster Sky Sports has dropped a former darts world champion as one of its commentators after he suggested that soccer abuse victims are "wimps."

Eric Bristow's comments on Twitter included: "Glad I am a dart player proper men" and "dart players tough guys footballers wimps."

He was tweeting about mounting testimony from former professional soccer players about the child abuse they suffered in youth development programs. Five police forces are investigating.

The 59-year-old Bristow said that if he were abused as a child he would have "sorted out" his abuser when he got older.

He has since deleted many of the comments.

Sky Sports says Bristow was a contributor to its darts coverage but "we will not be using him in the future."
