Brazilian megastar mocks furious Manchester City fans as two Premier League giants knocked out of Europe

Vinicius Jr mocked Manchester City fans after banging another nail into their Champions League coffin on Wednesday (AEDT).

The Real Madrid megastar coolly converted a first half penalty at Etihad Stadium to kill off hopes of an unlikely comeback in the second leg of their heavyweight round of 16 clash.

The Brazilian celebrated in front of jubilant Madrid fans before turning his attention to the furious Manchester faithful and pretending to cry.

Vinicius Jr's act inflamed tensions after Bernardo Silva had conceded the penalty, and been sent off, for a deliberate handball that prevented a Madrid goal.

The match finished 2-1 with Madrid advancing 5-1 on aggregate.

Vinicius Jr scored his second goal in added time and was again booed lustily while celebrating with a finger gun salute. City fans has been serenading him with chants of: "Where's your Ballon d'Or?"

Vinicius Jr had been in the headlines in February when he alleged he had been racially abused by Benfica's Gianluca Prestianni.

Benfica manager Jose Mourinho then sparked outrage when he suggested that Vinicius Jr's "provocative" dancing celebration triggered the abuse.

Chelsea joined City in bowing out of the Champions League as they slumped to a 3-0 home loss against defending champions Paris Saint-Germain.

They lost by an embarrassing 8-2 aggregate scoreline.

London rivals Arsenal, meanwhile, continued their dream season with a 2-0 home win against Bayer Leverkusen.

Eberechi Eze and Declan Rice scored superb goals for the Premier League Leaders, who advanced 3-1 on aggregate.

Earlier, Bodo/Glimt's fairytale run in the Champions League came to an end.

The Norwegian club from a fishing town of 55,000 people north of the Arctic Circle were beaten 5-0 by Sporting Lisbon after extra time and eliminated 5-3 on aggregate.

"People thought it was almost impossible but we showed that we believed in ourselves and turned it around. We played a perfect game," Araujo said.
