Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy will return to Europe, signing with Scottish giants Celtic for the upcoming season.

"It's an amazing feeling," Mooy said on the club's website after the signing.

"I'm just so happy to be here and it's a massive club with huge history and I want to be part of it, so I'm looking forward to the challenges ahead."

Mooy had left EPL club Brighton in 2020, taking a big money move to Shanghai Port in the Chinese Super League.

After leaving China, he would no doubt have had plenty of suitors, but opted to head back to Scotland, where he once played with St Mirren.

"It's always a bit stressful when you're talking with a club, especially a club like Celtic," he said.

"It's a massive club and I'm delighted that it's all done and I can get to work and hit the training field."

It's also a reunion with former Australia coach Ange Postecoglou, whose tenure at Celtic has received rave reviews so far.

"Ange was my coach for three years, I think, with the national team - I know the standards he wants and I'm looking forward to working with him again," Mooy said.

Celtic's squad will continue to have a Socceroos flavour to it, even following the departure of Tom Rogic, who left at the end of last season.

"I've known Tom a long time, we spoke lots of times about Celtic - I'm always interested to know what it's like up there in Scotland," Mooy said.

"He's obviously had an amazing period here and lots of success - I'm sure I'll be in touch with him shortly once the news comes out."
