Bournemouth coach wants offside ruling

Bournemouth coach Eddie Howe says he will consult the referee from his side's match with Liverpool to try to clear up a "grey area" that cost them in their 1-0 Premier League defeat on Monday.

Promoted Bournemouth had a goal disallowed for a debatable foul and were then beaten by a Christian Benteke strike that should, under new rules, have been ruled out for offside against Philippe Coutinho.

Coutinho was standing in an offside position when the cross came in and made a movement to connect with the ball, distracting the goalkeeper, before Benteke stabbed it over the line for the winner at Anfield.

"The new offside rule is a grey area," Howe said. "Under the new rules that is clearly offside. Our goalkeeper was affected by the player in front of him. I was very surprised that the goal was given.

"That is the clearest example of the new rule you will see. A yard-and-a-half offside and he is clearly impacting the goalkeeper.

"I didn't say a lot to the officials. They have a hard job but I will speak to them privately. I want feedback on the decisions."
