Former Germany striker Fredi Bobic was on Wednesday appointed board member for sport at Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Bobic, 44, has a contract until 2019 at Frankfurt, who on Monday won a relegation/promotion play-off tie against Nuremberg to remain in the top flight. He succeeds Heribert Bruchhagen.

Bobic's last job was sports director 2010-2014 at now relegated VfB Stuttgart, where the 37-times capped striker also spent most of his playing career.

"Eintracht Frankfurt are a big club. I am aware of the big footprint my predecessor Heribert Bruchhagen has left. I promise to do my best that the club has success," Bobic said in a Frankfurt statement.
