Big spending clubs look desperate: Spurs

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says the heavy off-season spending by some of his team's rivals for the Premier League title is a sign of desperation.

Manchester City and Manchester United have spent around $US200 million ($A259.64 million) each on new players, with Paul Pogba completing his return to Old Trafford this week for a world-record fee of $US116 million.

Tottenham's only signings have been Victor Wanyama and Vincent Janssen for a combined $US40 million.

Pochettino says "when you spend a lot of money, it's because you are worried about your squad and desperate to improve it. I'm very happy with my players and because of that I'm very quiet and relaxed. I trust my squad 100 per cent."

Tottenham finished in third place last season, ahead of City and United.
