Bayern Munich won 6-1 in Wolfsburg Saturday to extend their lead in the Bundesliga to 23 points as Bayer Leverkusen were held 1-1 in Hanover.

Leverkusen's draw means they remain third in German football's top flight, one point behind Borussia Dortmund who face Freiburg on Sunday.

"With Thiago we found our goals," Bayern coach Pep Guardiola told Sky TV. "That was very important for us. In the Bundesliga it is a big step forward.

"Wolfsburg were superbly organised, they were very aggressive," he added in praise of the opponents.

Fourth-placed Schalke enjoyed a simple 4-0 win over Hoffenheim, while Augsburg continued their excellent form with a 2-1 win at Borussia Moenchengladbach to go sixth.

SV Hamburg drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt while VfB Stuttgart halted an eight-game losing streak with a 2-2 draw at home to bottom club Eintracht Braunschweig.

In Saturday's late game, goals from Franco di Santo and Philipp Bargfrede gave Werder Bremen a 2-0 at Nuremberg to move them 11th in the table.

The match was also notable for the excellent sportsmanship of Aaron Hunt, who corrected the referee after he was awarded a penalty late in the second half.

Hunt told the official he had not been fouled and the game restarted with a drop ball.
