Bayern captain Lahm out for three months

Bayern Munich captain Philipp Lahm has broken his ankle during training and will miss up to three months of action, according to the Bundesliga leaders.

"Big blow for Philipp #Lahm: The captain has suffered a fractured ankle. He needs an operation and will be out for around 3 months!" Munich said on Twitter on Tuesday.

Lahm will missing the remaining games of the year and likely also miss the late January Bundesliga restart after a six-week winter break.

Lahm is the latest injury casualty for Munich who also have Javi Martinez, David Alaba, Thiago, Holger Badstuber, Claudio Pizarro, Tom Starke and Pepe Reina sidelined.

The champions Munich top the Bundesliga four points ahead of Wolfsburg going into Saturday's game against Hoffenheim, and have reached the last 16 in the Champions League as group winners.
