Atalanta are just one point off the Champions League places after the recorded a 1-0 win over Cagliari in Italy's Serie A.

A 50th-minute header from Dutch defender Hans Hateboer in Sardinia proved the difference and extended the Bergamo side's unbeaten run to seven matches in all competitions.

Having used all three substitutes by the 73rd minute, Cagliari were forced to end the game with 10 men as debutant Cyril Thereau, who is on loan from Fiorentina, limped off with a muscular problem in the 85th minute, 20 minutes after coming off the bench.

Cagliari stay four points above the relegation zone after winning just one of their past 12 league games.

They would have earned a point if Alessandro Deiola's stoppage-time header didn't hit the crossbar and stay out.

Atalanta, Roma and Lazio all sit on 35 points after 22 rounds and one behind fourth-placed AC Milan.

Felipe Caicedo's first-half goal was enough to clinch Lazio an unconvincing 1-0 win at lowly Frosinone.

Ecuadorian striker Caicedo fired home nine minutes before halftime as Lazio sealed their first win in Serie A since Boxing Day.

There had been controversy 10 minutes before the goal when referee Michael Fabbri awarded a penalty to Frosinone for a presumed tug from Bastos on Camillo Ciano, but he revoked his decision on video review.

Frosinone spurned several chances to salvage a point in the closing stages.

They're winless at home this season and remain second from bottom of the table, five points from safety.
