City assistant Valkanis sacked: reports
Melbourne City assistant coach Michael Valkanis has reportedly been shown the door by the A-League club.
City announced the mutual termination of the former Adelaide United caretaker coach's contract on Monday morning, after a year-and-a-half stint in Melbourne.
It's believed the 43-year-old wants a senior role elsewhere in the A-League and did not see eye to eye with City coach Warren Joyce.
News Corp Australia reports Valkanis was sacked after a recent analysis of the club's operations by Brian Marwood, one of the City Football Group's main executives.
Valkanis, who joined the club in June 2016, had previously served as City's interim boss after John van 't Schip's departure midway through last season.
He wanted the position on a permanent basis but was overlooked for Joyce.
It comes amid a shaky period for City, who are winless in their past four games, and after tension between Joyce and strikers Tim Cahill and Ross McCormack became public.
