Argentina, Brazil in thrilling 1-1 draw
South American football giants Argentina and Brazil have had a 1-1 draw in Buenos Aires, in a World Cup qualifier that was postponed for 24 hours over heavy rain.
The result was better news for Brazil than for hosts Argentina, who have three games without a win at the start of the qualifiers for Russia 2018.
Ezequiel Lavezzi was on target from close range in the 34th minute for Argentina, off a good low cross from Gonzalo Higuain.
The goal appeared to do justice to the first half of the match, where Argentina were clearly the better side despite playing without their injured superstar strikers Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez.
Lucas Lima hit back for Brazil in the 58th minute.
Brazil defender David Luiz was sent off for a second bookable offence with just a handful of minutes left to play, after elbowing one rival and stepping on another in the space of a few minutes.
"It's a pity," Argentina midfielder Lucas Biglia told Argentinian TV after the draw.
"It leaves us with a bitter flavour."
The match between the two South American arch-rivals had been postponed after a lengthy downpour flooded the pitch where they were scheduled to play on Thursday in Buenos Aires.
