Postecoglou says Jedinak move good for Socceroos

Ange Postecoglou expects captain Mile Jedinak to brush off his imminent English Premier League departure and enter the Socceroos camp in a happy frame of mind for next month's World Cup qualifiers.

Jedinak, 32, was stripped of the captaincy at Crystal Palace in the off-season by coach Alan Pardew and is set to join second-tier club Aston Villa.

The tenacious midfielder was pictured at Villa Park on Wednesday morning (AEST) where was believed to have undergone a medical.

Postecoglou backed his Asian Cup-winning captain to shake off any disappointment at moving down a division and continue in fine style for the national team.

"Players are always happier when they're settled rather than a little bit of indecision or conjecture about their futures," Postecoglou said.

"If it does come to fruition and he moves to Villa ... he'll be in a good space mentally. It certainly won't affect him in any way, he's an outstanding leader and he's been fantastic for us since I made him skipper.

"He'll come in feeling pretty good about things if he's settled."

If the Socceroos skipper completes his move, he'll join a growing band of Australians in the Championship.

Massimo Luongo (QPR), Aaron Mooy and Jason Davidson (Huddersfield), Bailey Wright (Preston), Jackson Irvine (Burton Albion) and future prospect Cameron Elder (Brentford) all play in the English second tier.

Mooy has earned rave reviews for his start to the season with the Terriers and was in action earlier on Wednesday (AEST), holding Aston Villa to a 1-1 draw at Villa Park.

Irvine, a club-record signing for Burton, opened his account for new club as they beat Sheffield Wednesday 3-1.

Bailey Wright featured in Preston's 1-0 loss to Derby, while 21-year-old Elder started again in Brentford's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest.
