Aloisi hails Roar's goalie dream team

Brisbane Roar coach John Aloisi has hailed Michael Theo and Jamie Young for their harmonious working relationship after shoring up the A-League club's goalkeeping stocks until at least the end of next season.

Young has signed a two-year contract extension with the Roar while Theo's deal with the three-time A-League champions expires at the end of the 2016-17 campaign, with the pair currently locked in an intriguing ongoing battle for a starting position.

While Theo seems to be Aloisi's preferred option, returning to the side last weekend in the 4-1 loss to Adelaide United, the veteran's recent injury problems have meant long stints in the first team for the once-maligned Young.

But the intense daily competition hasn't led to any personal problems or awkwardness between them, and Aloisi said that was a feat in itself.

"I've been at plenty of clubs where the keepers don't even talk to each other, let alone say good morning," he said.

"These two do.

"They work really well together but that's also because our goalkeeper coach Jason Kearton works well with them."

Aloisi was somewhat guarded when asked why he switched goalkeepers last week, given Young had barely put a foot wrong.

"I thought I had to change something and Michael Theo had been working hard, out for six weeks waiting for that opportunity and I gave it to him last week," he said.

"He'll get it again tomorrow (against Sydney FC).

"The reasoning is I have a good selection headache to have when I have two great goalkeepers.

"If Jamie wasn't really happy, he wouldn't have signed another two years."

Meanwhile, the Roar have signed Joeys captain Joe Caletti on a full-time youth deal, which is the 17-year-old's first professional contract.
