All White McGlinchey leaving Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix stalwart Michael McGlinchey is ending his four-season stint with the struggling A-League club.

In a statement, the Phoenix said All Whites international McGlinchey is leaving with immediate effect and they wished him well.

McGlinchey played 85 matches since joining the club from the Central Coast Mariners in 2014.

He scored 11 goals in his tenure but went goalless in a less productive 2017/18 season as the Phoenix battled to a ninth-placed finish.

He was at his best under former coach Ernie Merrick, who made the former Scottish age group player a fulcrum on attack.

It is unclear where the 31-year-old will next lace up his boots.

A cloud of uncertainty continues to hover over the Phoenix too, who are still to appoint a head coach for next season and are the subject of speculation over their future in the A-League.
