Teammate who died in car accident honoured

As far as fitting tributes go for dead teammates, the University of Nebraska football team outdid themselves.

Five weeks after punter Sam Foltz was killed in a car accident, the Cornhuskers played their opening match of the college football season.

When the punting team headed out for their first work of the match, no punter stepped onto the field and it quickly became evident the team was honouring Foltz.

The move cost them a penalty, but that was the least of their concerns – this was the opportunity to show everyone how special Foltz was to them. Banner with the letters and numbers ''SF27'' were also spread around the stadium in memory of Foltz.

After the penalty was enforced, play continued and scored a 43-10 win over Fresno State on a day Foltz’ family, friends and teammates will never forget.
