Fever plot Firebirds netball downfall

The West Coast Fever have vowed to come out all guns blazing when their finals hopes go on the line in Sunday's trans-Tasman netball league clash with Queensland Firebirds in Brisbane.

The Fever's destiny is in their own hands following their 70-47 rout of Central Pulse in Perth on Saturday.

Only the top three teams in each conference qualify for finals, and the Fever and Melbourne Vixens are locked in an intense battle for third spot.

The Fever moved 3.1 percentage points ahead of Vixens following their big win over Pulse.

But given Melbourne are expected to post an easy win against the Pulse on July 4, West Coast will need to beat Queensland to finish third.

Fever wing attack Verity Simmons played for the Firebirds last season, and knows it will take a big effort to beat the defending champions on their home court.

"It's definitely a big ask, but with the game plan that (coach) Stacey Rosman has put in, we really back that and trust that," Simmons said.

"I think there're holes in that team we can exploit.

"We need to win that game and put pressure on the Vixens to win theirs.

"It's a huge game. It's do or die. We'll put everything out there and go out all guns blazing."

The Fever's win over Pulse was their first ever victory at Perth Arena, ending the club's five-match losing run there.

"Finally we broke the curse of the Arena," Simmons said.
