Celebrities be warned – sitting in the front row of sporting events is not always the perk it is made out to be.

Just ask comedian Jimmy Fallon.

The Tonight Show host was left red faced after freaking out when faced with a harmless foul ball at a Major League Baseball game in New York.

Footage of the incident captures Fallon sitting in the front row behind the catcher during the match between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Yankees.

At the bottom of the seventh innings, the Yankee batter swings hard at a wide pitch, just clipping the ball and sending towards the stands behind him.

But the ball never reaches the fans with the potential harmful missile stopped by a large net behind the backstop.

Fallon, however, must not have been aware of the net because just as the ball cannons into the protective webbing, the 40-year-old recoils in fear, flinging his hand in front of his face and knocking off his Yankee cap.

But despite his embarrassment, the former Saturday Night Live star immediately acknowledges his mistake, bowing and waving his hand to the rest of the stadium.
