Brisbane mechanic loses battle with Foxtel over stream of Green-Mundine fight

A man streaming last night’s pay-per-view boxing to more than 110,000 people on Facebook Live has filmed the moment he realised Foxtel had tracked him down.

Brisbane mechanic Darren Sharpe had more than 110,000 people viewing his stream during the undercard bout between Quade Cooper and Jack McInnes.

So, instead of people forking out $59.95 to watch the fight, Sharpe’s massive audience would have hurt Foxtel’s income.

A call which appears to have come from Foxtel, was also broadcast.

His stream had ended before the main event bout between Green and Mundine started.

The phone call Sharpe received appeared the ultimate battle of man vs corporation.

"I want you to stop streaming it on Facebook," the caller told Mr Sharpe.

"You're fine at home, there's no dramas with that at all. Just don't stream it on Facebook."

Mr Sharpe retorted he was only acting in the interests of other viewers.

"Mate, I've got 78,000 viewers here that aren’t gonna be happy with you," he cracked.

"I'm not doing anything wrong mate, what can you do to me?"

In the end it appears Foxtel did do something. Chalk another one up for the corporations.
