Eddie Vedder’s cringe-worthy baseball song

Eddie Vedder entertained a generation of music fans with his angst-ridden grunge songs, so when it comes to singing at a baseball match the Pearl Jam frontman really should be a "Better Man".

The life-long Chicago Cubs fan shed his flanno and cargo pants for a crisp shirt and suit to take the microphone and sing "Take me out to the ball game" during a recent Major League Baseball game.

And while the thousands of Cubs fans cheered with delight, the result was a typically cheesy rendition of the baseball anthem that was enough to make any Pearl Jam fan cringe.

The familiar baritone was evident but all too cheery for the man best known for singing about topics such as school yard bullying, such as his Grammy Award-winning song, "Jeremy".

The latest rendition comes after Vedder was widely panned for taking the mic to sing the same song at the Cubs' Wrigley Field while drunk at a match in 2006.

The popular frontman has long dreamed of watching the battling Cubs play in a World Series, telling Billboard magazine in 2013 he never went to a decider as a child because he was waiting for Chicago to make an appearance.

"I actually went to the Phillies/Yankees World Series (once)," he said.

"But I’m going to go to a Cubs World Series game - and I’m taking care of my health in order to do so."
