Highs and lows in a debut to remember

As far as professional debuts go, most sportspeople have a story to tell. Few will boast the yarn Destin Hood is able to spin as the years go by.

After eight years in the minor leagues, Hood made his Major League Baseball debut for the Miami Marlins and got his first career hit. Job done – or so everyone thought.

To make the day even better his parents were in the stands and were being interviewed live on television when Hood reached second base.

‘’It’s amazing, it’s a dream come true,’’ Hood’s proud dad beamed.

The joy, sadly, was short lived.

With his parents still on cloud nine, Hood made a cardinal error a few pitches later when he was caught off his base and tagged out.

Hood’s father was left scratching his head while his mother didn’t let the incident affect her.

 The Marlins rookie had another hit later in the game, but his team lost 6-2 to Cleveland.
