An American NFL star has introduced the term ‘stinger’ to the Australian sport vocabulary after seemingly suffering a serious concussion in a recent match.

San Diego Chargers’ star Jahleel Addae ran into major problems when he charged into a tackle during his side’s 35-21 defeat to the Denver Broncos.

In the footage, the Chargers safety rushes up as he tries to stop Broncos’ running back Juwan Thompson from moving the chains up the field in the fourth quarter.

But after bouncing away, the innocuous hit seems to have taken a heavy toll, Addae wobbling from side to side suffering what seems to be a heavy concussion.

However, after being evaluated on the sidelines by medical staff, the 24-year-old was allowed to return to the field of play.

After the game, Addae revealed he hadn’t been concussed, but merely suffered a ‘stinger’, a spinal injury that can lead to partial or total paralysis.
