Dazed MMA fighter tackles referee after being held in choke hold

UFC fighter Marcus Surin found himself in a spot of bother after being locked in a guillotine choke by rival Devin Powell at Bellator 232.

Surin refused to quit in the final seconds of the second round of their lightweight bout — and hung on for dear life to try and minimise the damage inflicted.

Surin had endured another choke in the first round and seemed like he was able to loosen the hold the of the move in the second round by holding up his free arm.

Moments later he gave a thumbs up to the referee to indicate he was ok and that he'd was well enough to continue the fight but it was clear he wasn't in good shape.

As Powell lets go of the hold, Surin tries to bring the referee down with a single leg take-down, leaving him with no choice but to award the fight to Powell.

"I watched somebody finish a fight like that in PFL and I was like 'I really want to hit this'," Powell said.

"I've never done that — even in a jiu jitsu class. Snapping that down, hitting the rear-naked-style guillotine. But it felt super-deep so I kept squeezing, I was trying to put my lat (back muscle) into it.

"(When the buzzer sounded) I thought 'god damn it' and then he went for the ref and I realised I did it, he is out. It was kinda crazy."
