Australians fail to medal in men's BMX

Australians Sam Willoughby and Anthony Dean have finished out of the medals in the Olympic men's BMX final.

After they dominated the quarter-finals and semis, Willoughby and Dean had the two best starting positions.

But American Connor Fields blasted down the start ramp and won the gold medal ahead of Dutch rider Jelle van Gorkom, with Colombia's Carlos Ramirez third.

The automated result had American Nicholas Long in third place but a review of the finish saw him bumped out of the medals.

Willoughby, the London Olympics bronze medallist, was sixth and Dean did not finish.
