Olympic road race to start, finish on Copacabana

The Olympic cycling road races in Brazil next year will start and end in front of the fort on Rio de Janeiro's world-famous Copacabana beach, the International Cycling Union (UCI) said Friday.

The men's 256.4km course will take place on August 6, 2016 with the women's event over 130.3km a day later.

The course will also pass other Rio landmarks such as Ipanema beach and Barra da Tijuca, while there will be a 2km cobbled section and a brutal short climb, added the UCI.
