Gerrans wins Stage 1 of Tour Down Under

Australian Simon Gerrans's aim to be the first three-time Tour Down Under champion is on track after he outsprinted Andre Greipel to claim the first stage of the race.

Barely a week after winning the national road championship, Gerrans beat Greipel in a thrilling sprint to the line, with Steele Von Hoff coming in third.

Gerrans finished with a time of 3:20:34.

Australian Adam Hansen claimed the King of the Mountain jersey after an impressive climb up Mengler Hill.
