Cyclist celebrates win when there is a lap remaining

    Powered by

Czech rider Adam Toupalik could have cost himself the under-23 cyclo-cross world championships after committing the cardinal sin of celebrating too early.

Toupalik was under the false impression that he’d beaten out his rivals to take the title comfortably in Belgium when there was one lap left to go.

Footage from the finish line shows the Czech rider look back to his closest rivals before cruising over the finish line with both arms raised.

He continues to celebrate after passing the line before realising that the race is not over as his competitors peddle past him.

The premature celebration did prove costly with Toupalik finishing second to Eli Iserbyt when the race actually finished.
