Tour Down Under: Cycling fan takes on peloton in nothing but budgie smugglers

A cycling fan has run his own private race against the world's elite riders wearing nothing but a pair of budgie smugglers in the fifth stage of the Tour Down Under. 

The man was standing by the side of the road with a group of beach goers during the decisive stage from McClaren Vale to Willunga Hill when the main peloton charged past.

Fed by his competitive spirit, and no doubt a little Aussie cheekiness, the man took off like Usain Bolt and went stride for stride with the field. 

However, the half-naked man was no match for the likes of Richie Porte and Rohan Dennis and eventually had to concede defeat against their speed. 

But there was still a little fight left in our larrikin and the sprinter quickly became entertainer, waggling his body as the riders flew by on their way to the defining moment of the race – the climb up Willunga Hill.
