Constable stars with cycling win

Australian Patrick Constable has scored the biggest win of his cycling career, taking out the sprint in the last round of the track World Cup.

Australia won two gold medals and a silver in the Hong Kong event, with a young men's team pursuit squad impressing and Stephanie Morton taking second in the keirin.

Constable claimed a big scalp in his semi-final, beating British Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny two heats to nil.

The Adelaide rider then also dispatched China's Chao Xu 2-0 in the gold medal ride-off.

Constable had only qualified 12th-fastest and also had to come from one heat down to beat Russian Nikita Shurshin.

The junior team sprint world champion made his World Cup debut 12 months ago.

"It's huge, I'm stoked I could get the job done and end up on the top step," Constable said of his Hong Kong success.

The Australian men's track endurance squad also showcased their depth of talent in Hong Kong with the team pursuit win.

West Australian Sam Welsford joined Alex Porter, Miles Scotson and Rohan Wight as they clocked three minutes 57.461 seconds to beat Denmark for the gold medal.

They also qualified fastest.

Morton rounded out Australia's medal tally when she took second in the keirin final behind Lithuanian Simona Krupeckaite.

It was her fourth silver medal of the World Cup season.

Morton was forced into a long sprint and just failed to win the final.
