MAN OF THE DAY - Mohammad Hafeez. The Pakistan opener showed he's still got it in his first Test since 2016, grinding out a patient century. Big effort considering the 37-year-old wasn't even named in Pakistan's original 17-man squad.

KEY STAT - Hafeez and Imam-ul-Haq combined for a 205-run opening stand. It is just the 10th time in a Test match that Australia has conceded 200-plus runs in the opening partnership.

KEY MOMENT - As has so often been the case, Nathan Lyon was the man to deliver the breakthrough for Australia. His dismissal of Imam in the second over after tea was soon followed by Peter Siddle trapping Hafeez lbw.
