Vics build lead over SA, Harper injured

Victoria have made a comeback to build a useful lead over South Australia, but the day was marred by a nasty injury to their young wicketkeeper Sam Harper at Adelaide Oval.

Sheffield Shield leaders Victoria ended day two at 3-198, 204 runs clear of second-placed South Australia.

Victorian openers Travis Dean and Marcus Harris put on a handy opening stand of 82, the biggest of the match so far.

But it was Australian one-day international Aaron Finch who put his imprint on the match late on with his unbeaten 58 coming at a run-a-ball.

But the major talking point of the day was the incident involving Harper.

Playing in just his sixth Shield match, Harper was in some discomfort after being struck by the follow-through of Jake Lehmann's bat while standing up to the stumps.

Harper was taken to hospital where he will remain overnight but scans cleared the 20-year-old of any bleeding or bone damage.

South Australia were 9-168 at the time and, after an extended lunch break following the incident, they were dismissed for 178, six runs shy of Victoria's first innings total.

Lehmann was the final wicket to fall, caught off the bowling of Jon Holland for a match-high 92.

The Redbacks commenced the day at 5-80, following a wild opening day in which 15 wickets fell.
