Australian cricket superstar Beth Mooney has topped the bidding at the inaugural women's The Hundred auction, securing a big deal for the tournament.

Mooney, along with New Zealand's Sophie Devine, were both sold for the top price of £210,000 - equating to about $393,000 AUD for the four-week competition.

The 32-year-old was the subject of a bidding war between the Trent Rockets and Manchester Super Giants, with the Rockets securing her services.

Mooney wasn't the only Aussie to cash in at the auction either, with Jess Jonassen sold for $206,000 and Nicola Carey also in the six-figure range at $178,000.

Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield are both on contracts in excess of $200,000 but were not signed as part of the auction.

Ellyse Perry is set to earn $187,436 as captain of the Birmingham Phoenix, while Meg Lanning will lead the Super Giants on a deal worth $178,000.

White Ferns star Devine will play for the Welsh Fire, while the surprise packet was England all-rounder Dani Gibson, who attracted a final bid of $356,000.

It's a landmark rise for the English-based competition, with the salaries for this season far higher than the top wage of $122,000 last year.

The first edition of the women's Hundred five years ago had a top salary of $28,000.

The salaries this season are higher than the WBBL and comparable to the WPL in India.
