Meg Lanning receives incredible stroke of luck on wacky missed run out in T20 final
Southern Stars captain Meg Lanning has benefitted from an incredible stroke of luck in the T20 tri-series final against India in an incident which had to be seen to be believed.
In the midst of a solid partnership with Beth Mooney, Lanning opted for a quick single off the bowling of Arundhati Reddy before she looked destined to be run out.
However, despite an accurate throw from the fielder Shikha Pandey, the ball somehow missed the stumps after it ricocheted off the cover which houses the stump mic and its wiring.
Incredibly, after the ricochet, Lanning and Mooney completed a second run with the ball evading the Indian fielders, raising a question of whether it was in the spirit of the game.
Lanning's teammate Elyse Villani, who was on commentary for Channel Seven, called it an audacious move to come back for a second run.

"When someone has a shot at the stumps and it hits any part of the batter the batter generally doesn't run again," Villani said.
"If you need another run to win in a World Cup final do you (take the run to) win? Technically you can but with the Spirit of Cricket you generally don't."
Villani's co-commentator, former Australian Test batsman Brad Hodge, was also surprised by the entire play.
"Very cheeky from the skipper!" Hodge exclaimed.
"That's an interesting one. It looks like it's going to hit. It actually deviates to the right."
Lanning was eventually dismissed a short time later for 26, while Mooney remained unbeaten on 71 off 54 deliveries as the Stars finished on 6-155 in their 20 overs.
